Chorin Monastery - Church and Cloister

The construction of the Cistercian monastery of Chorin, north-east of Berlin, was begun in 1273. In the Middle Ages, Chorin was one of the most important monasteries in the Marches of Brandenburg. During the Reformation, Elector Prince Joachim II. had the monastery closed in 1542. In the course of time, the buildings sustained considerable damage. In the 19th century, consciousness for the value of the plain gothic brick architecture increased. The western facade of the church is of particular interest. The remaining buildings are now listed monuments and can be visited. Concerts and other cultural events are regularly held here as well.
